Little Stars Christian Preschool
Newsletter January 2020
Dear Parents and carers
Welcome back to a new term and a new year !! We hope you had a lovely Christmas, please send back your “what we did in the Christmas holidays” sheet (attached), we love hearing about your fun at home. Thank you so much for our lovely Christmas cards and gifts – we received some lovely comments from families. J
Welcome to the new sunshines who are joining us this week. We are now quite full this academic year, we have some lunch spaces and some afternoon spaces. If you require any more hours before September please talk to Sara Rouse and we will try and accommodate you J. We are now taking bookings for September 2020, please spread the word to friends. We will be asking sunshine families to confirm the days they may want in the next academic year around Easter time.
Grant signing and 30 hour eligibility
These forms need to be signed on Monday 13th January in order for you to receive your free 15 hours or 30 hours (where applicable), please could all rainbows and the eligible sunshines sign them with Mrs Sara Rouse – there will be a bit of a queue but we need to check your hours and complete your form that day if at all possible J Please remember that if you are entitled to the 30 hour eligibility you need to revalidate your code every 3 months online with the HMRC.
Rainbow school admissions
Please check that you have applied for a school place for September through the admissions at Warwickshire County Council, the deadline is 5 pm 15th January – please return the form to us if possible so we know which schools we are likely to be liaising with. Thank you.
Teacher Training Day Friday January 31st
We advised you in September that we were arranging another training day, this is now confirmed as Friday 31st January 2020. Staff will be visiting other settings to see how other practitioners and settings work, looking at other packaway settings like us and another Christina setting. Sorry for the inconvenience but it is an essential part of our continuous professional development.
Bookbags and Sweatshirts
We have received another delivery, the children enjoy choosing a book to put in their bag and take home to share with you they cost £3.50. Sweatshirts and t shirts are not compulsory – some families like them, some prefer to use their own clothes cost £9.00 or £7.50.
Don’t forget that we play outside on Mondays and Wednesdays even in winter, please dress up in warm and suitable clothes with hats, gloves and coats. (We also play outside most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons too).
We are very lucky to have a volunteer who comes each week to play and help. Volunteers enable us to go out on our trips and do activities such as cooking or woodwork etc. Please let us know if you would like to come in and help us, it may be preparing snack, washing up, coming on a walk or sharing a skill such as sewing or a craft etc. Regular volunteers will have to complete a DBS with us- which is a simple process and free.
We are enjoying the Tiger who came to tea story this week. We will then be looking at how things work, exploring and investigating, using construction, tools, making a garage workshop, looking at magnets and other technical activities – to develop the childrens critical thinking.
We hope to visit the garage across the road and other places to support the childrens learning.
We will be thinking about the Wiseman and foolish man and how they built their houses.
At the end of January we will be celebrating Chinese New Year – so it’s a very busy time.
We hope to have a play session with some of our elderly church friends – following on from the success of inviting them to the Christmas lunch. We have found that the children really benefit from interactions with our elderly friends – growing in confidence to speak up and play games or do craft activities.
Coffee Morning (Parent & Supporters Forum) Wednesday 5th February 9.30 – 11.00
Please come and join us for an informal get together, coffee and toast and a toddler/baby corner. This is a great opportunity to chat and socialise and to input into Little Stars with your ideas and help us with ideas for fundraising. Everyone welcome.
We are still looking for a parent, or friend that can “match give” any fund raising event through their employer – Matched giving usually doubles the amount raised at an event, so our wreath evening could have doubled in income. Please ask your family- it is usually large companies and financial companies such as banks who support this scheme.
As you know Little Stars is a not for profit organisation, so fund raising is a vital part of our income and helps to support the purchase of extra resources for the children – we are trying to update our IT and tech resources for the children. We would love a few families to help on the fund raising team, please chat to Sara if you are interested.
Speech and Language drop in sessions
We are passionate about our Little Stars speech and language development, and encourage you to talk to us about any concerns. The speech and language drop in’s are valuable informal opportunities to chat to a therapist, we will remind you each month about the dates on a poster near the stairs.
Safeguarding and Information Corner
Please check www.facebook.com/stayingsafe online for information about online safety for pre-schoolers. Check your settings on your phone, laptop, iPad etc.
We are sending out our digiduck book this term, please read it and then send back to us for the next family. It’s a good way of raising awareness amongst your family about safety online.
Please don’t park in the car park or on the double yellow lines, it makes visibility hard for families walking to us and the traffic wardens are very grumpy !!
We are trying to use our Facebook page more, and will post information here when possible, please like and share our page with your friends as it is a good way to advertise us too. Thank you.
We have lots of toys at little stars, and although we love children to share with us things from home such as trips out or activities or even a bus ticket… sometimes the toys get lost. Please do share lovely new things and experiences with us, but we will be putting the toys on their peg once they have been shown.
If you aren’t coming in to Little Stars please do ring us before 9.30 if possible, or leave a message on our answer phone 477597 or email us – we have to prove to the funding that we have made every attempt to contact you and query any non-attendance. It can take us a long time in the morning to telephone you. Thank you
We had a very busy winter term, with a theatre trip, several walks, fund raising events, our craft day, childrens Christmas dinner, singing in church and at Chandos court – just to name a few. We would love to hear your feedback about last term… please use the slip at the end of the newsletter if you have any comments to make.
Love from Sara Rouse and all of the Little Stars Team
