Dear Parent and carers
Welcome back to Little Stars and to our new families a really warm welcome to our preschool. Everyone has settled in so beautifully – we hope you had a fantastic summer – it seems a long time ago now!!
You all should have received a copy of our term dates, there are a few dates for fund raising events that we still need to confirm, and will let you know as soon as we know.
Charity Fundraising Event – Welly Walk Wednesday 2nd and/or Thursday 3rd October
Our fundraising events throughout the year are for Little Stars funds, except this first one. The children and staff will take part in a sponsored welly walk on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd October to raise funds for Myton Hospice. We need parents to help us in the morning (9.30 – 10.30) of both days to take the children for a small walk in the locality. Please find attached a letter and sponsor form from Myton Hospice.
Harvest Coffee Morning & Parent and Supporters Forum
On Thursday 17th October the children will sing in church to celebrate Harvest. Please come at 10.45am to watch the children in the church and then join us for an informal coffee morning and chat – younger children, grandparents and friends are very welcome. Please bring Harvest donations of tinned/dried food e.g. coffee, pasta to give to the food bank for people who need it in Leamington.
Parent and Supporters forum
Our parent and supporters’ forum exists as an opportunity for parents, carers, friends and family to meet together to contribute to Little Stars life. Often we meet to prepare for celebrations such as Easter, Christmas and fundraising events. We welcome any input and suggestions that you may have. We will meet once a term for a fun informal chat with coffee

Easter meeting Hot cross buns and plan for the Spring Fair
Your preschool needs you – we welcome help with our walks, or to take the children to the greengrocers etc. We are also looking for a few parents to join a fund raising team – this is not an onerous task – just some help to plan events that you will want to attend. Please talk to Sara Rouse if you can help us.
Coffee and chats
At the end of last term, several families said they would like more informal coffee and chats with other families – (not just the one a term) please let us know if you want this.
How Little Stars is run
Little Stars is a not for profit organisation, we are a registered charity and are run by a board of trustees on a voluntary basis. Our current trustees are;

Light party – a family friendly afternoon event organised by the Church
Saturday 26th October 2019 4pm – more information later – but it will be an informal fun family friendly event for the whole family.

We also have a Facebook page and try to post most weeks – please do look at it and share with your friends.
Places available at Little Stars
We were initially nearly full for this academic year, but a few families have left the area over the summer – so we have a few places left in Rainbows and Sunshine’s. Please do tell your friends, and spread the word.
Safeguarding corner (each of our newsletters has a safeguarding tip)
Just a reminder that the road outside Little Stars is very busy, please hold your child’s hand, or use reins/ rein backpacks if your Little Star likes to run free.
Please don’t park on the double yellow lines – it makes it hard for families to see well to cross the road and the traffic wardens will give you a ticket.
Door security – We want to keep our children safe, so please shut the Rainbow and Sunshine doors behind you, and don’t open the main door for anyone – please leave that for the staff.
Staffing and Keyworkers
We are currently allocating children to keyworkers as the children are settling in. We endeavour to not change your child’s keyworker throughout the year, but may have to change some children’s keyworkers later on in the year if we have a lot more Sunshine children join us – which would mean some staff may have to move rooms. Please be assured that all staff know the children really well.
We love sharing – if you have something exciting to tell us e.g. – potty training, trying new food, drawing a picture, a trip on a train please tell us and we will put it up on our wall.
In the Rainbow room we are enjoying our Rainbow and colour theme, and the children have made a stage – we have some budding singers and dancers!!!! We are also talking about ourselves, our families and people we love. With a focus on numbers, counting songs and categorising.
In the Sunshine room we are settling in and thinking about colours especially red, yellow, green and blue – sorting and naming colours and some basic numbers and simple songs.
In both rooms we have a story of the week and Makaton signs of the week to help support our children’s learning. We are singing simple songs and using signs to support the children who are learning English.
Then in October we will explore Harvest and Autumn, farms, tractors and food.
Nursery Education Funding Form Signing
For all 3 year olds, children on the 2 help scheme or those eligible for the 30 hour entitlement. You will need to come into Little Stars to complete and sign your forms on Monday 30th September (or Tuesday if your child does not attend on Monday). Please be prepared for a small queue – we have to check your claimed hours.
October Half term
Please note that our October half term is longer than the school ones – sorry about this but we do not receive funding from the Local Authority for this week. We will close Friday 18th October and open again on Monday 4th November – ready for bonfire, Diwali and Remembrance week fun.
